Unit 31.3 Documentary Proposal

In this documentary, I'm working alongside two other people, Simon and Ali and our main topic of the documentary is about Knife Crime and Gang Culture. As we are a group, our individual productions will have the same footage but it won't necessarily mean it's going to be in the same order. This assignment is due in 17th of May, where me, Simon & Ali have important work to crack on with.

Our topic for our documentary is Knife Crime & Gang Culture. The reason why we chose this is because it is a social issue that is currently still around in the community today. We all live in the South of London where stabbings and gang operation is a norm, so we have made a great decision choosing such a powerful topic to talk about.

Our target audience are young teenagers to young adults (13 - 20) as well as this we are thinking of shooting in Croydon as it is the borough with the most amount of youths. Basing our documentary in Croydon would give us more of a chance to get to speak to the youths of Croydon for them to give their opinion on Knife Crime & Gang Culture.

To capture footage, we are going to use a mobile phone with a good quality camera. I currently own a Samsung Galaxy S4 which is a smartphone back from 2013 with a 13MP camera lens. I actually wouldn't recommend using this phone as it wouldn't provide good quality within the documentary. Both Simon & Ali have iPhones (iPhone 7) so it would be down to them to choose which phone to shoot from.

I'm also thinking of adding background music throughout the documentary mainly to attract the audiences attention whilst watching, and also to eliminate the background noise from bystanders & by-passers too. As my target audience is 13 - 20 year olds, ideally a up-beat hip-hop/grime beat would be suitable for this documentary. For the intro and closing of my final edit of the documentary, I want to add a voiceover of stats and/or the whole purpose of our documentary just to set the mood for the audience. For the voiceover I don't have to worry about using my S4 to record as the voice recording quality is above average quality.
