Children Of Men 2 Scenes Analysis

2 Scene Analysis
The movie begins with a black screen with news reporters reporting about the latest news and disasters that are happening. The use of this black screen creates tension for the audiences as they don't know what exactly is going to be shown next after this scene. For this scene any other colour could have been used by the director/producer but he decided to use black because it symbolises death, evil and mystery. Mystery is a good word to use as the audience would be wondering what is going on or about to happen in this film.

The first visual scene of the film starts with a crowded shop full of people who are watching the news. Even though the cafe is crowded, there is an eerie silence as they watch the news on the youngest person in the world who got murdered. As this information is shown on the news there is also a piece of Diegetic music that slowly fades in to slowly catch the audiences' sympathy and emotions in the scene too. As much as there isn't even enough dialogue in this scene, the littlest thing said by anyone was the protagonist. "Excuse Me Please" "Coffee Please. Black". The protagonist has said these two sentences without a reply back from anyone which represents that they aren't in the mood since hearing that the youngest guy on the planet has been murdered.

As soon as the protagonist grabs his coffee, he looks at the person who served him and nods his head to say thank you. Whilst he nods his head, it isn't with a smile but his facial expression that shows he is upset. This also implies to the audience that his day is already ruined by the sad news he has heard.

The next scene i'm going to analyse is the one continuos shot scene, where the camera doesn't out at all. The scene starts at the start of a short tunnel with a dim, foggy & smokey atmosphere. The atmosphere is like this because of the war that is going on.

Before this grimey scene is shown, at 8 seconds the camera cuts straight to the tunnel which also accompanied by eerie sounds of a string orchestra. The non-diegetic piece jumps in straight away, with no fade, just out of nowhere. This makes the scene more scarier than it seems. This really establishes the certain type of mood and tension for the audience to be in as the camera moves towards the exit of the tunnel.

At 20 seconds on this scene the eerie strings are still being played but it is also dimmed down slightly as gunshots also get brought into the mix. These gunshots are loud and are loud for reason to make the audience feel like they are actually with them on the long camera shot journey.
